Unmoored by Sally Meakins

The work in this exhibition is in response to the notions of place, space and time and the ways in which (it) can perhaps put into question the ways we perceive and understand complex ideas.

Sally Meakins has a strong interest in narrative and the work reflects stories of place, time, loss, disappearances, reappearances, decay and renewal.

The movement through space and ‘the unfathomably long periods of
time and distance’.

The pieces in the exhibition seem to have a kind of spooky stillness, they are not inert but in truth, they form narratives, chapters that spread
and stretch outwards. Making for an interesting encounter between the artist her work and it’s viewers. For this artist there is always the question of how to make work
that explores notions that appear to be intangible, complex and unfixed into
images and objects.

“I Have a tendency to make work where there is a recurrence of particular images, objects and unexpected materials as a way of expressing ideas that can be contradictory and complex, hopefully creating a shift in perception making the appearance of the familiar unfamiliar. There are strands in the pieces here that have been developed over time and keep coming in and out of consciousness. They don’t always come with a fully formed understanding or stable meaning. The work is always in flux, shifting”
