Community Urban Dig

Discover the Past: Join The  NLAHS and  Our Big Picture for the Second Annual Archaeological Dig In Our Back Garden

Our Big Picture, an arts and heritage charity located in a Grade II listed building and grounds, is thrilled to announce the return of the North Lincolnshire Archeology and History Society Community Urban Dig. From July 15th to July 19th, 2024, join us as we unearth history in our own back garden, in an event that promises to be even more captivating than last year, where we unearthed hundreds of treasures !

This year’s dig, part of the prestigious Festival of Archaeology, will be a hub of activity and discovery, open to the public via streaming live for audiences around the world.

Event Highlights:

  • Live Archaeological Dig: From July 15th to July 19th, watch as the team of expert archaeologists, volunteers, and community members work together to uncover the secrets buried beneath the grounds of our historic site.
  • Family Arts Day: On July 26th, Our Big Picture will host a special Family Arts Day, celebrating the dig and its findings. This fun-filled day will include hands-on activities, workshops, and a chance for families to engage with the dig in creative ways.
  • Artists in Action: Throughout the dig, we will invite local artists to interpret and record the excavation through their unique practices. This fusion of art and archaeology aims to offer fresh perspectives on the past and inspire community engagement.
  • Live Streaming and Events: Can’t make it in person? Join us online as we live stream the dig and offer virtual events, providing an inclusive experience for all interested in archaeology and heritage.

Our Big Picture’s archaeological dig is not just about unearthing the past; it’s about connecting with our community, fostering a sense of curiosity and stewardship for our shared heritage. We are excited to collaborate with artists and community members, creating a dynamic and interactive exploration of history.
