OBP delivered Illuminate Mayflower 400 Lantern Parades working in partnerships with NE Lincolnshire Council and Immingham Town Council. Delivering a community heritage inspired participation art activity. 

2017 saw the first joint Illuminate NEL parade events – over three parades across NE Lincolnshire
  • Coastal community funding
  • 155 Children and Young People plus 16 adults helped to make the lanterns
  • 10 artists were engaged from concept development and workshop delivery
  • Construction: a boat and hand – 5ft compass and 30 large lantern waves
  • Lantern participants – Grimsby 62,  Cleethorpes 38, Immingham 90
  • 12 volunteer marshals +NELC volunteers and marshalls

2018 Immingham held its own Illuminate Parade

  • 8 artists were engaged to add to the existing lanterns from 2017
  • 120 Children and Young People create lanterns
  • 140+ people parading the lanterns with
  • Audience of 400+
  • UK towns and cities with historic associations to the Pilgrims hold annual Illuminate events. 2019 – 2020 is the commemorative 400
  • The Pilgrims overcame adversity as they embarked on the first stage of their sea journey from Immingham to Holland in their desire for freedom. A chaotic departure meant the women and children were left behind and the people of Immingham later helped reunited the families in Holland. After 10 years the Pilgrims were finally promise new-found liberty departed in 1620 from Plymouth for America.
